Giant Cat

Ridiculously hilarious giant cat.

RIP Mr. Buns

Mr. Bunny died despite my best intentions. I guess I should learn to let nature run its course.

Baby Bunny

When I arrived home last evening I found my cat sitting in front of a stunned baby bunny. (The above photo is not the bunny I found but a similar one to give you an idea of size). He's got a cut on his leg (from the cat, probably) and me, with the bleeding liberal heart, rescued him and took him inside. I put some anti-bacterial ointment on his cut (as per some instructions on the net) and put him in a box with some grasses, water and a towel. This morning he still appeared alive and reasonably happy, although shocked at my continued reappearance. He was munching on some grass. I read that a cat bite will get infected with some weird bacteria and he probably needs some antibiotics if he is to survive. Any advise? Not sure we can spring for a $100 dollar vet trip, and I'd prefer to rehabilitate him into the wild rather than keeping him in a cage. Kathy had a bunny growing up, and it was a mean unfriendly thing.

Name stalking.

I recently read an interesting article that discussed how you feel a certain love of the letters in your name, and a discussed an innate curiosity about people with the same name. So I randomly searched for both of my names (Jessica Harry, and Gaughan) and found some pretty interesting things.

First is a youtube video made in memorandum for a Jessica Harry who was killed in a car crash in Canada about a year ago at the age of 18. I also found mention of the accident. Creepy!

Also I found a Jessica Harry who appears to be a rather fierce latina and interestingly has a sister named Katrina (similar to my sister Katherine, kind of). She apparently is into pink and black and looks like she would come out on top in any sort of verbal battle.

Jessica Gaughan's appear to be a bit more rare. I found one mention of a Jessica Gaughan in a swimming tournament winners report, but no further information on her.

Jessica S. Gaughan apparently wrote a very wordy paper on " Sum frequency generation (SFQ) vibrational spectroscopy studies of combustion reactions on platinum single crystal surfaces (2004)" which upon several readings later I cannot begin to decode still. This is the Jessica Gaughan I would wager makes the most money.

On another note, I went hunting for morel mushrooms this afternoon, but am afraid that Bobby was right in saying it's too cold. And it's damned cold today! Bobby's been sick this past week and has been mostly sleeping. He's apparently got a one man vendetta against me, because I keep discovering he is spreading his germs all over my stuff. He's got horrid night sweats (the bed literally has a puddle on it) and when he changed the sheets yesterday he decided to hijack my poor innocent pillow. Also there are random used sopping kleenex tucked all over the house, I have to be wary where I stick my hand. I'm trying to be kind and graceful, and he is obviously miserable, but I sure don't want to get sick. And it seems impossible when somebody else in your house is sick to remain healthy.

KU WINS!

Video Michael took on one of the roofs downtown of the massive hysteria following our victory. While I'm not a huge sports fan, I'd admit that that game almost gave me a heart attack many times. So many that by the time it was finished, I stood and watching the explosion of celebration for about an hour and then went home and crashed. We watched it downtown at Jeffersons, made possible by Bob's 10am arrival (for the game that started at 8:45pm) to camp out to ensure our group a table. It was extremely fun watching it there, we go to Jeffersons weekly and love the atmosphere.

I heart my RSS feed...

I mentioned before, but I've fallen handily in love with google reader. I follow several hundred blogs/newsfeeds/sale listings from one convenient hub, rather than having to remember favorite blog names and addresses and stumble upon them when I remember them. While exploring today I discovered I could put a feed into my blog with all of my blog entries or news stories of note. That new box on the left is not ads, but a treasure trove on links! Google reader also lets you so easily email links, you just click the letter icon and it opens an email right in the reader. It's totally slick.

Stuff White People Like: Free Healthcare

Once again, Stuff White People Like speaks the truth.
Did I ever mention how, when living in India, an overnight hospital stay and meds cost less than 5 dollars? The care was dubiously equivalent to our US treatment. I say dubiously because it was a bit dingy in there, not our hallowed halls of medical grade cleanliness. Of course, we still have MRSA outbreaks here...

Hot tub, schnanigans

Drew says it best in his post about our arduous journey to pick up our new hot tub last evening. It's a circular hot tub, supposedly fitting 6 people and we got it for 350. It's about 10 years old, and seems to be in a more or less healthy state. Obviously this is just the base cost, running an electrical 220 wire looks to be expensive, as will the supports for the deck. Hopefully we can make it out with a working hottub for less than 750 at the very most. I'm hoping it will be more like 500 total, but that may be wishful thinking. A hot tub was my last years new years resolution, and obviously I did not succeed within the year, but am feeling pretty good about getting it done. It's Bobby's birthday soon and it'll make lovely evening activity. Hopefully it will make our friends come and visit us, living on the edge of civilization is hard sometimes.

An adnem to Drew's post: I've been feeling spicy lately so added a couple unnamed peppers into our taco extravaganza we had to lure the boys into helping us move the behamouth. I made a radish salsa from Martha, but added the peppers willy nilly. Just a teaspoon of that stuff on my taco had me weeping (and hours later I realized I still had the pepper juice on my hands which burned everything I touched) and today, on the other side, is equally vicious.

Looks to be a stormy gray day today.
