Yet another reason to rethink your stance on abortion.

I just had a very interesting conversation with a lady who works in an office nearby to mine. Her daughter is in labor today. The daughter has had a rough year last year because when she was last pregnant (about a year ago) she found out her baby did not have a four chambered heart. Because of this, had the baby been born the baby would have needed a heart transplant immediately. However the baby was not a candidate for a transplant because the lack of oxygen to the brain caused by the malformed heart had left the baby's brain very underdeveloped. For some reason carrying the baby full term would have put the mother at serious risk, a risk she didn't want to take as she had an older toddler at home. She opted for a late term abortion. What else could she have done?
I certainly don't think banning this sort of abortion would have served this mother or her baby. The baby would have died either way. If "partial birth" abortion is banned the mother could have also died, and the baby being born today would never have existed.
I certainly don't advocate that a woman should use abortion as a form of birth control. I think serious thought should be had before having an abortion. If I was in her situation I sure hope I would be blessed with the same family support, and the same choice that she had.
